Well, SysEx CAN be used to create multi-point controllers that effect multiple channels simultaneously but it's often used to provide a MIDI Reset, as to where, it'd be telling your Synth what to recognize effects and instrument patches as. Without a SysEx Reset, I think MIDIs take on an automatic reset of General MIDI, but resets can be used to change to General MIDI 2, XG or GS mode and tell your synth to recognize certain controllers and patches not allowed in other modes. By default, Microsoft GS, the default synth for all OS' since 95 I think, can recognize, GM, GM2 and a little bit of GS. I can't really give an example of GM2 since I haven't made one yet but here's an example of GS: You'll notice that when you listen to this midi, preferably somewhere that recognizes SysEx effects, which should be any generic audio player besides a MIDI Sequencer or Quicktime, it has different Saw and Square patches than this one. The first one uses a GS reset and three GS instrument patches. MSGS only recognizes about 1/4 of GS' effects and patches, etc. which, I always thought was weird. But yeah, it doesn't seem that this program rezognizes them. I was wondering, since I got into the habit of using MSGS patches in all my midis a few years back, and the program I use to notate doesn't work well with the program that I use to insert Resets and controllers. Figured this could be a good alternate.

The problem is, not all computers will support XG or GS. That's why we're sticking to General MIDI.

I see what you mean...you adjust the Send Patch to change the controllers and patches. In that case, yes, both Noteworthy Composer and Notation Composer support those; but like Moose said, we should just stick to the generally accepted format.

Which is why I was asking in hopes to be able to use something else besides Anvil Sutdio as a permanent MIDI sequencer, because it handles SysEx effects like someone with tremors trying to knit, and it's very annoying.

Yeah I got it the first time around, but thanks for the reup because I had to do an emergency factory restore yesterday. Program actually works pretty well.
