Seeing as how we have "routes," having worn out paths makes perfect sense.
Jonny, for the sake of completion, you can revise your old maps for the paths later on when we all go back and add new map locations, buildings, and the like. From now on, morningstar's idea would be a good one to implement.
Anyway, some more information...
Route 8 is a rather uneventful route. There are no rivers, and the ground is relatively flat. There are some slopes and ledges, and the Underground Passage has an entrance on the northwest side. The easy slopes and stable terrain make this place a good spot for bikers, and you see plenty of them all over the route. The entire route has a paved path that reaches the Saffron Gate and the Underground Passage, as well as Lavender Town. There should also be a bikers' headquarters building here near the west. This place is a hub for bikers all over the Kanto region and there are biking ceremonies held here occasionally. The ceremonies themselves are held along the path and surrounding flat land.
Route 6 is a heavily forested route south of Saffron City. Well, the northern half is heavily forested but it leads to the shore to the southwest. The Underground Path entrance is to the northeast. To the northwest, you can enter a short path that will lead you to the School of Hard Knocks. There is a pool of water in the center, and this is likely due to the proximity of the sea (the water is salty and has a lot of the same Pokémon found in the seawater). You can Dive into this lake and somehow end up in the sea. There are many Berry patches along this route. This route is paved from Saffron City's entrance to Vermillion City.
That's it for now. I hope you're writing these down.
